Certification of Sustainable Tourism
Certification of Sustainable Tourism
The Costa Rica Tourism Board received global recognition for its Certification of Sustainable Tourism (CST) tool, which recognizes Costa Rican tourism companies for sustainable management of business, social, cultural and environmental activities. Presented by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC), the award provides Costa Rica with increased international credibility for its alignment with GSTC criteria, a global baseline standard for sustainability in travel and tourism. Currently, there are approximately 400 tourism companies in Costa Rica with CST accreditation. This voluntary certification contributes to the growth and development of sustainable tourism activity in Costa Rica, a country that has wagered on ecotourism as a differentiating and fundamental element of its positioning.
