Taking place the Monday and Tuesday before Ash Wednesday, "Mas Dominik, The Real Mas" is Dominica's lively Carnival. The celebration brings together African and French traditions, which are translated into a cultural explosion of music, art and dance. In the months leading up to Carnival, there are Calypso music shows, village feasts and pageants.

The northeast corner of the island is home to the last remaining community of Carib Indians: the Kalinagos, Dominica's indigenous people and descendants of the population that once dominated the Caribbean islands. Not only is the land preserved in Dominica, but the people and culture as well!
