It's difficult to stay up to speed when the social media landscape is constantly shifting and shaping - we get it! We want to keep you updated on the latest social media news this month, so we highlighted the biggest changes in social media. We've compiled the best of the best and are happy to share with you the August 2017 Edition of What's New in Social Media.
facebook. Facebook Reactions Use on the Rise, According to New Data:
Facebook’s Reactions have been around for more than a year and a half now, and while their adoption and usage has been relatively low, they do add something new to the Facebook experience. A new study from Social Bakers shows that positive responses are far more popular than negative, despite the calls for a ‘dislike’ button, while the basic Like is still the leading response by a big margin.
facebook. Facebook is Testing a Twitter-Like Rounded Profile Picture:
Facebook is testing the new design of rounding off the profile pictures of users and pages for its News Feed. There is also a slight alteration to look of the like and comment buttons.
facebook. Facebook Stories are Coming to Desktop:
Copying Snapchat’s Stories template has proved to be a successful move for Facebook, and now the social network has confirmed that Facebook Stories is coming to desktop, with a new variation of the tool to start appearing in the top right of your Facebook feed. Unlike Instagram Stories, Facebook Stories is currently not available to brand Pages – though that may change soon.
twitter. Brands on Instagram Can Now Promote Posts With Multiple Photos, Videos:
Brands now have the ability to promote their organic carousel posts directly from their smartphones. A button will appear beneath the content that will the brands the option to aim for more profile or website visits, or to reach users located near a specific address.
Snapchat. Instagram Releases New Stats on Stories Use to Celebrate Stories’ First Anniversary:
Instagram has released a range of stats to mark the one-year anniversary of its Stories feature, including the most used Stories hashtags, the most popular stickers and the most commonly applied location tags. According to the report, users under the age of 25 are spending 32 minutes per day in the app, and half of the 15 million businesses now active on the platform have also produced a Story in the last month.
instagram. Instagram Livestreamers Can Add a Guest to Their Broadcasts:
Yesterday, the company announced that some users will be able to add a "guest" to their live broadcasts, essentially adding a second contributor to the livestream. This lets users have a live conversation with a friend and broadcast both sides of that chat to your followers.
pinterest. Pinterest Rolls Out Promoted Video to All Advertisers:
A year after Pinterest first started testing promoted video, the platform's now opening the option to all advertisers, giving brands a new way to connect with the Pinterest audience. Promoted videos, which now autoplay, stand out in the feed and have more capacity to grab attention as users scroll through.
pinterest. In a Pinch: Pinterest Users Can Now Zoom In on Pins:
Pinterest users can now pinch to zoom in on Pins, and the social network also announced some enhancements to its visual search functionality. Product manager Jeff Harris announced in a blog post last week that iOS users (iPhone and iPad) can zoom in on details in Pins, such as texture and color, by pinching. Harris added that the feature will be extended to Android “soon,” saying that it had been one of Pinterest’s top requested features.
pinterest. YouTube Now Lets You Share Videos Within the App:
YouTube users can now share videos and chats with friends within the mobile app. Each video that is shared begins a conversation stream, which can be found under the app's new Shared tab.
