Volunteer Virtually with Lead to Read |
Lead to Read KC is a literacy program for Kansas City-area urban schools, where children and volunteers bond over books. Due to the coronavirus pandemic and school closures, Lead to Read KC has launched a virtual volunteer program. Studies are predicting significant learning loss due to school closures, so Lead to Read plans to serve at least 500 students this semester and expand into a summer program to help students catch up and keep up during this critical time. If you are interested in becoming a reading mentor, learn more here. |

Social Media Highlights
Instagram is reportedly testing a new listing option that highlights how long each Story has left before it's erased in order to prompt more people to get onto them while they last, which could boost Instagram Story consumption.
Spotlight is essentially TikTok within Snapchat, and the feed will feature a range of short video clips, both from public and private Snap accounts, with users able to submit their videos directly to the Spotlight feed for consideration.
Twitter is working to provide more brand safety options to reassure businesses about ad placement. |

KC Airport Progress |
KCI is making some large strides. Even with 2020 being the unconventional year it was, the Build KCI team accomplished so much! For starters, they were able to increase their peak daily field workforce from 250 to over 700, which totaled 650,000 hours worked in the field. They provided opportunity for 113 Kansas City-certified minority- and women-owned businesses on the KCI New Terminal Project and raised over $90,000 for United Way of Greater Kansas City's ongoing COVID-19 recovery fund through their "Sign The Beam" Build KCI campaign, just to name a few. Check out the full Year in Review. 2021 is off to a busy start as well. Last week, work started on the new parking garage! Precast concrete panels are coming together to create the parking garage that will provide more than 6,000 parking spaces to the traveling public when the Kansas City International Airport new terminal opens in early 2023. |
