Times Square Tourism Takeover: Team London announced a new campaign inviting U.S. travelers to "Let's Do London." London Mayor Sadiq Khan was joined by the cast of the hit British musical SIX and the iconic Coldstream Guards on May 9 in New York to launch London’s largest ever international tourism campaign following the lifting of US-UK travel restrictions. The $12.5M “Let’s Do London” campaign was launched by Mayor Kahn with a spectacular London-themed takeover of Times Square as he called for U.S. visitors to put London at the top of their travel bucket list. A smashing success, the event was covered by every major news outlet including Fox, NBC, CBS, ABC and NY1, and garnered over 1.8 billion impressions.

Strategy + Travel Insights
Travelers’ concerns related to COVID-19 continue to fade, but now travelers are more concerned about rising costs. As we saw in our recent Portrait of American Travelers® report, 8 in 10 active leisure travelers say that gas prices will impact travel in the next six months. However, this doesn't mean that they won't be traveling. Rising gas prices are more likely to impact how people travel and spend their money than if they will travel. Forty-eight percent of leisure travelers who indicated that gas prices will have an impact will plan to travel closer to home, and 35% plan to spend less on entertainment and shopping. Supplemental data from GWI states that U.S. domestic travelers are more likely to explore thrifty behaviors on entertainment, eating out and spending on alcohol while at home before spending less on a vacation.
