Experiences versus Stuff: Is spending money on experiences actually better than buying actual items? The answer is a definitive yes. And there’s some pretty compelling science behind it.
Raise your hand if you’re getting your fill of this “experiences over stuff” debate. Because it seems that everywhere we turn—news reports, in books, in the trailer for HGTV’s Tiny House Hunters, and even in our own Portrait of American Travelers—we’re being told that experiences are much more valuable to folks than physical things. And that experiences, in the end, will make us much happier.
The “Experience Economy” — anything from going to a movie or concert to trekking across Africa — actually isn’t new. But, like most things, has taken a while to reach a critical mass so that we now seem to hear of it constantly.
