MMGY Global Go Do Good!
Go Do Good 2019
Fourteen MMGY associates from five brands, two continents and five cities will embark on a journey to Guatemala October 18–22. They will be joining Globe Aware, a nonprofit that develops short-term volunteer programs in international environments. This program is a unique way for our team to give back and Go Do Good. On this trip, our associates will be building a cement floor for a local family near the town of Flores and assisting with other projects the community needs. The team will also have the chance to enjoy the lush natural surroundings of Lake Petén Itzá, explore world-famous Tikal National Park, and learn local traditions and culture through engaging activities organized by Globe Aware.
Congratulations
Alyssa Wahrman, Bailey Degnan, Brian Klein, Clare Buchanan, Danielle Stine, Erin Carlson, Hannah Norris, Isabelle Thomas, Katelyn Schmidtberger, Katherine Hartley, Lydia Matthews, Mandi Hefflinger, Mara Weiss & Morgan Shapiro!

“I have enjoyed representing MMGY internally through serving on our culture crew as well as in the community through networking. This opportunity will allow me to take the next step in representing my company globally, where someone in my position wouldn't typically get that opportunity.”

“I believe everyone deserves basic necessities - one of which is hope. I want to spread hope to everyone — hope for a better life, hope for food, clean water, education, and healthcare. I truly believe it is our calling to care for others.”

Brian Klein

“From my days in high school where I was taught to be a Man for Others to my service leaderships scholarships received in college to today when our entire family logs a number of service hours across a number of charities, the service of others has always been a core part of my life. I truly appreciate getting out into the community because these experiences help open our eyes and hearts and show a love for this world that we didn’t know before.”

MMGY Grifco - London
“Given the chance to Go Do Good, I believe that I would be able to help empower and create a positive impact on a community in need. Being able to put my efforts into something so worthwhile is something that I would be very excited to be part of and something that I feel would benefit our overall goal to create an inclusive and peaceful world, using travel as a cultural bridge of understanding.”

Danielle Stine
MMGY - Kansas City
“From childhood to adulthood, this love of giving back has stayed with me, and I still volunteer weekly with groups across the city such as Girl Scouts, KC Pet Project and others. The idea of volunteering with my peers in Guatemala is beyond exciting to think about because it will give me an opportunity to do something that I love with the people I work with who feel as passionate about giving back as I do.”

“It's easy to feel that by just being present in this world is causing more harm than good (ie: carbon footprint, benefitting of the gentrification of neighborhoods...). Now more than ever it's important to "be the change you wish to see in the world", and I think that starts by being curious about others, being open to experiences and allowing yourself to give and receive kindness to others.”

MMGY Hills Balfour - London
“My move towards tourism was as a result of a desire to promote development through private sector growth rather than through the public sector as I felt at that time that this would empower others and equip them with the skills to take control of their futures. I, therefore, began my career in tourism working to promote travel to Ethiopia and Kenya. I still feel an immense connection with the concept of empowering others to be in charge of their futures, and essentially, to shine.”

“This project also shows that MMGY not only serves the world but also cares about the world, connecting travel not only to the surface-level, fun, vacation experiences, but truly to the culture of the people around the world. Travel is not really about the actual travel itself but about the experience and connections to the people met and experiences that are had.”

“I believe it's important to take a step back from that and look at what you can do for others as well. I would love to have the opportunity to serve a community in need and work hard for something that will directly benefit another person life in a positive way.”

“I want to be involved in this programme to continue to push myself out of my comfort zone and make connections with the people I will be helping as well as members of the wider MMGY Global family. It would be an honour to help those less fortunate than myself and to learn from colleagues from other parts of the world on the trip.”

“As someone who is an optimist – sometimes to a fault – I’m a firm believer that no matter the circumstances, we should at least try to make a positive impact. We need it now more than ever. On my own, I’m capable of little, but backed by an organization like MMGY and GlobeAware, I feel like I could do so much.”

“I’m so proud to work in travel, especially when the industry can be used as a force for good. This is an amazing opportunity to help those in need, make a real difference, meet people from across the world and discover a completely different way of life.”

MMGY NJF - New York City
“I have always enjoyed bringing joy to other people and helping in the community, so this is a perfect opportunity to bring happiness to these families and leave a lasting impact on these Guatemalan families. I have been extremely fortunate to always have a roof over my head, food to eat, and a supportive community of friends and family, but I understand that is not the case for these families so I want to do what I can to give back and positively impact the lives of those in need.”

"Exploring the world, experiencing new cultures and giving back has always been important to me personally. When challenged earlier this year to help bring our company values to life, I knew that I wanted to develop something that harnessed our mutual passion for travel, added to the knowledge and expertise we all have working in the industry, while making a positive impact on the world. My first call was to my high school friend who founded GlobeAware. A few minutes into our call, I knew they'd be the perfect partner for us. This program, which our brilliant creative team aptly named Go Do Good, truly embodies our company's values mission by getting us out of the office and traveling the world to help transform a community in need. I'm thrilled to be accompanying our associates on our first Go Do Good trip, to immerse myself in a place I've never been before and to work side by side with the families we're going to meet in Guatemala. I know this is going to an unforgettable experience."
