You probably saw the exciting news: the Northern Territory – and all of Australia – is open to fully vaccinated international travelers! As of February 21, 2022, travelers from the United States and Canada with an approved visa have been able to travel quarantine-free to Australia’s Northern Territory. Keep reading to see what’s been happening in the Territory as of late and what visitors should look forward to seeing as they make their way back to the Outback!

Freshwater Retreat |
Matt Wright, the well-known Outback Wrangler TV personality, has opened a new luxury property just south of Darwin. Freshwater Retreat includes the four-bedroom house known as The Wright Residence, as well as four safari-styled villas each equipped with their own outdoor bathroom and kitchenettes. The property also features a shared gym, large saltwater pool, turtle pond and a billabong, and soon will be home to local wildlife.

Sails in the Desert Refurb |
Sails in the Desert, located in Yulara near Uluṟu-Kata Tjuṯa National Park, has undergone refurbishment. All rooms have new bathrooms, air-conditioning systems, beds and carpets. Additionally, Terrace Rooms have new patio furniture pieces. The spirit of the local Aṉangu peoples’ art remains at the forefront of this property’s design and was prioritized during the recent renovation.

When the boat reaches the mangroves, the passengers transfer to a V8 airboat that takes them around to look for marine wildlife.

Parrtjima, a unique light festival celebrating First Nation Australians art and culture, will take place from April 8–April 17 in Alice Springs Desert Park. The festival’s program includes light installations, artwork, performances, interactive workshops, music, film and a speaker series, and registration is free to all who wish to attend.

Adventure Tours’ Top End Waterfalls and Wetlands |
This two-day excursion blends lessons about the Top End’s nature and wildlife with the chance to learn all about the Top End’s Aboriginal communities. Highlights include seeing saltwater crocodiles, swimming in waterholes, enjoying local pubs and learning about the wet season’s significance to First Nations. Guests will stay overnight at Litchfield National Park and enjoy the company of a local guide. With only eight to 15 people on a tour at any given time, this experience promises a close-knit environment.
