East Sepik Province
Carved by the mighty Sepik River, the East Sepik Province is an ecologically diverse region in northern Papua New Guinea that boasts a tapestry of coastlines, tropical forests, islands and mountain ranges. There are more than 250 languages spoken in the region, and local villages rely on river systems for all aspects of daily life – from fishing and transportation to cultural traditions. The province's capital city, Wewak, is known as the gateway to the Sepik River and offers palm-fringed shores and perfect waves for surfing. It's also known for Cape Wom, the site of the surrender of the Japanese forces in New Guinea in WWII.

Karawari Lodge Renovation
The traditional Karawari Lodge is perched in the tropical foliage above the Karawari River. It is in one of the most isolated parts of Papua New Guinea, accessible only by small aircraft and then boat. Recently, Karawari's soaring 45-year-old main lodge was elegantly refurbished by the children and grandchildren of the original builders using traditional building techniques and natural materials. Local villagers, international tourists and Trans Niugini Tours joined together to celebrate the completion of the project.
