New Ireland’s Culture
|
The people of New Ireland take pride in their rich and varied cultural practices and environmentally focused values. There are three distinct cultures in New Ireland Province: Malagan, Kabai and Tambuan. While Malagan and Kabai are unique only to New Ireland and are known for traditional means of shark hunting, Tumbuan – which is a men's sacred society and also widely practiced by the Tolais in East New Britain Province – actually originated from the southern area of New Ireland in the Lak/Kandas area where it is mostly practiced.
