Western Highlands is centrally located in the highlands of Papua New Guinea and shares common borders with Enga, Southern Highlands, Simbu and Madang provinces. The province is diverse with mountains towering above 2,800 meters, such as Mount Giluwe, and also low altitude areas such as Tsendiap in the lower, Jimi which is about 600 meters above sea level.
The capital city, Mount Hagen, is a bustling commercial center where wealth from coffee and tea plantations has brought rapid change to traditional lifestyle.
