Sadly, in the midmorning hours of September 11, 2022, a massive 7.6 earthquake struck the main island of Papua New Guinea, causing landslides, property and infrastructure damage, and the loss of life. While the capital of Port Moresby felt the tremor, the majority of damage was near the earthquake’s epicenter near Lae, in the Morobe Province, Kainantu in the Eastern Highlands and the Rai Coast in the Madang Province. The country has already begun the process of recovery, and our thoughts are with the communities affected by the earthquake.

Papua New Guinea - a million different journeys, a beautiful underwater reef teaming with life.

As we enter October, Papua New Guinea prepares for the Morobe Show, which takes place on the weekend closest to the full moon of the month. Held at Lae Showground in Lae City, the Morobe Show is organized by the volunteer-run Morobe Province Agricultural Society. Show attendees year after year are fascinated by the fireworks, exhibits, dances, parades, singsings and more, as the show’s liveliness can’t help but draw people in.
