Last week, the Rwandan government announced new measures to combat the recent rise of COVID-19 cases. These resolutions take effect immediately and will continue through February 22, at which time the situation will be reviewed. Changes include a shortened time frame required for a COVID-19 PCR test to be conducted before flight departure to Rwanda. Previously required no more than 120 hours before departure, COVID-19 PCR tests are now to be done no more than 72 hours before flight departure. The Rwandan government is also prepared to align with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) requirement of COVID-19 testing 72 hours before arrival in the United States. Additionally, all arriving travelers are required to self-quarantine for 7 days, with the exception of international tourists, as well as business travelers staying in Rwanda for less than 7 days. International travelers are still subject to COVID-19 testing on arrival and subsequent 24-hour quarantine until results are returned, departure tests, and are strongly advised to minimize interactions with local communities. More information on these changes can be found in the attached Covid guide, on the Visit Rwanda website and on the Rwanda Reopens FAQ page. |

Although one of the smallest countries in Africa, Rwanda has one of the highest population densities in the world! The population is spread amongst smaller cities, towns and villages throughout the country. Only 10% of Rwandan citizens reside in the capital city of Kigali, which means the towns and countrysides throughout Rwanda are also bustling with farmers carrying tools to the fields, women carrying loads of vegetables or fruits, children riding bikes, and so much more. |
