Starting February 4, 2022, city-owned facilities will observe a new, more lenient health and safety protocol, allowing those who have not yet received a booster shot to enter if they show a negative COVID-19 test result. This means that it is now easier to meet, attend, and host events in San Jose.
The ordinance specifies that all people entering city-owned facilities for events larger than 50 must provide either:
Proof of full vaccination and up-to-date booster for those eligible; or
Proof of full vaccination, for those not yet eligible for a booster; or
Proof of a negative COVID-19 test
For those individuals who are not yet fully vaccinated, a negative test result will need to have been conducted within one day of the event for an antigen test or within two days of the event for a PCR test. People can either show a printed document, email, text message or phone photo of the test result. The proof must come from a test provider or laboratory that shows a negative result from a recent PCR or an antigen COVID-19 test. It also must include the person’s name, type of test performed and date of the test.
Children ages 5-12, who previously were exempted from the city’s vaccination order, are no longer exempt. Starting Feb. 4, they also must show proof of a booster or a negative test. Children who are not yet eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine – currently those under the age of 5 – are not subject to the order.
Regardless of vaccination status and/or negative test result, all persons must wear face coverings at all times.
