Every year, thousands of merrymakers migrate to Freeman, South Dakota, for Schmeckfest, or the “Festival of Tasting.” This massive German-style celebration started as a small one-day fundraiser in 1959, but the community, experience and especially the food soon drew larger crowds. Don’t miss this two-weekend event and its family-style servings of sausage, potatoes, sauerkraut and kuchen.
