South Dakota is made up of a variety of landscapes, including prairies, back-country mountains, recreational lakes, grasslands and verdant forests. You’ll find plenty of them showcased in our parks. South Dakota features six National Park Service sites and 56 state park and recreation areas. Fees and permits do apply in most cases. This includes recreation permits for the legendary Black Hills National Forest and entrance fees for Badlands National Park.
