Aviation history was made just 12 miles south of Rapid City at the Stratobowl, a deep and lush natural bowl in Black Hills National Forest. In 1935, explorers used a high-altitude balloon to ascend and snap the very first picture to show the curvature of the Earth. From Sept. 10 – 12, you can launch from the Stratobowl in a reservation-required hot air balloon. Spectators can also watch sunrise balloon launches from the beautiful Stratobowl Rim Trail. No matter how you take part, you’ll enjoy the history and natural beauty of this unique fall event.

Downtown Rapid City explodes with sudsy fun during Bierborse. Translating to "beer stock exchange," this event features 82 beers whose prices change depending on the popularity of the beer.
