The road trip and South Dakota: the two just belong together. Always have and always will. As generations of Americans already know, something special happens when traveling between landmarks like the Missouri River, Crazy Horse and Black Hills National Forest. Time slows as an appreciation for the beauty of your surroundings grows and every passing mile gives you another excuse to pull over and explore.
Summer is in full swing.
It's time for a South Dakota road trip.
Feel the ground rumble and see the dust fly as one of the last great traditions of the Old West unfolds before your very eyes. The annual roundup is free and open to the public.
On the shores of Lake Francis Case, Chamberlain is a lively Missouri River Reservoir town. Home to both the Akta Lakota Museum and the South Dakota Hall of Fame.
Built to honor the people, the museum seeks to preserve the rich culture of the Lakota. Housed in a former school building opened in 1921 and featuring art and artifacts.
